SANXENXO (PONTEVEDRA), 20 Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Juan Carlos I has arrived this Thursday at the Sanxenxo marina (Pontevedra) to sail aboard the Bribón, a boat with which he is expected to participate this weekend in the Copa del Rey de Vela held in the municipality of Pontevedra.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the former monarch entered the marina directly, without stopping at the yacht club and without making any statements to the press, which he greeted from the co-pilot’s seat.
After descending the jetty stairs with difficulty, leaning on his cane and with the help of his companions, he greeted the crew. He has finally got on the Rascal, which cleared up the doubt as to whether he would sail aboard the mythical boat or would do so in an auxiliary. Two minutes before 12:00, the Rascal has cast off.
These ‘training sessions’ in which the king emeritus is expected to participate are the prelude to the tests that will take place this weekend in Sanxenxo, for which Don Juan Carlos will also assist.
The former monarch landed this Wednesday in Vigo, this being his second visit to Spain since he left the country in 2020 and established his residence in Abu Dhabi.
As happened in 2022, this visit is also surrounded by great media expectation and, although to a lesser extent for the moment, also attention from residents and tourists. Some of them, leaning on the railing of the jetty, have applauded and cheered and cheers (Long live Spain and Long live the King) to the monarch, who has responded to the gesture by waving his hand.
