VALENCIA, 3 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘president’ of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has been in favor of “water solidarity between regions”, which, in his opinion, “must be officially extended to all of Spain”, after speaking with the Minister of Ecological Transition , Teresa Ribera, who has informed him of the intention to take water in boats from the desalination plant located in Sagunt to Catalonia to fight against the drought that this region is suffering.

Mazón has assured, as indicated by the Generalitat in a statement, that he is in favor of “desalinated water having a priority and almost exclusive use for drinking emergencies, not for irrigation because this is very harmful to crops and citrus”.

Along these lines, he highlighted that Ribera has guaranteed him that “increasing the capacity of the desalination plant above 15% has no impact on the needs of the province of Valencia”, while also asking the head of the Ministry for a meeting to “address the water needs of the Valencian Community on issues such as transfers or the emergency of the Albufera.”

Finally, the ‘president’ of the Generalitat has emphasized the Consell’s “commitment” to “defend the right to water that the Valencian Community needs and deserves.” Furthermore, he has pointed out some of the actions that the Generalitat has carried out, such as the post-transfer works with the awarding of section 1, in which the works will begin shortly, with a budget of nine million euros or the tender for the section 2 of this infrastructure.
