He sees “a childish trap” that the Government talks to all the minorities and does not call the PP, and on top of that he blames it for not supporting

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has set the conditions so that the PP can support the validation of the anti-crisis decree law approved by the Government, including reductions in personal income tax and VAT on meat, fish and preserves.

“We will support the measures that the Government has published if they really favor relief for Spanish households and there is a reduction in taxes on the most modest incomes,” Feijóo stated in the 2023 balance sheet.

At this point, Feijóo has stressed that some “indisputable” measures that the decree should introduce would be a reduction in personal income tax, so that increases in salaries derived from inflation do not result in higher income tax payments, and lowering VAT. , in addition to basic foods, pastas and oils; in meats, fish and preserves.

It also considers it important to reduce public spending, improve financing in social care, promote renewable energies and maintain the current nuclear power plants in Spain to reduce energy costs and ensure supply.

The leader of the PP has explained that his party has already transferred to the Government a battery of economic, tax and energy measures to be included in this aid decree already approved by the Council of Ministers and published in the Official State Gazette (BOE). In fact, the PP even requested a meeting with the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, and the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, for this purpose.

However, that meeting has not taken place and there have been meetings with all the minority parties, according to Feijóo. “It turns out that the government talks to all the minorities and excludes the majority and then makes them responsible for the fact that they do not have their support, this is a rather childish trap,” said the PP leader.

However, it has insisted on maintaining a negotiating attitude with the Executive to include some of the previously mentioned measures.

CRITICISM GENERALIZED TRANSPORTATION AID

But yes, it has left some criticism of some aid that has been included in the decree, such as generalized transport aid and the increase in VAT on the electricity bill.

“You cannot tell a Spanish family that transportation is subsidized regardless of the income of the person who uses it and yet the electricity is increased,” commented Feijóo, who has denounced that these initiatives are also being adopted in the moment “with the greatest fiscal pressure” in history.

And the PP leader has emphasized that Spain leads general, female and youth unemployment in Europe; that the country closed last year with a deficit above 4% compared to 0.4% in Portugal; that public debt has its highest record in history without “any fiscal consolidation criteria” and that one in four Spaniards lives at risk of poverty.

“If I were President of the Government I would not be able to brag about this,” Feijóo stressed in reference to the speech made by Pedro Sánchez last Wednesday and where he said that the Spanish economy had denied “all the prophets of chaos.”
