The Minister of Housing wants to “speed up the procedures” to launch the platform and for Spain to be a “pioneer” in the European Union MADRID, May 24. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, has proposed to the autonomous communities the creation of a state and single data platform for 2025 that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, will offer public data that is comparable with the EU on tourist apartments, seasonal rental or room rental.
To this end, Rodríguez brought together housing managers from each of the autonomous communities and Ceuta and Melilla this Friday in a sectoral conference to propose the creation of said platform and analyze the proliferation of tourist apartments and their impact on housing.
The creation of this platform emanates from the European Regulation on the Collection and Exchange of data related to rental services and long-term accommodation, in force since this month of May, and which mandates member states to approve said platform, with comparable data. throughout the EU.
“We have current regulations within the European Union that will allow public administrations to have better data to be able to confront this phenomenon, to prosecute the fraud that also occurs around this phenomenon,” Rodríguez stressed. .
Furthermore, it has highlighted the “illegality” of some tourist accommodations that do not have a license to operate as homes of this type.
Thus, Rodríguez wants to “accelerate the procedures” to launch the platform and allow Spain to be a “pioneer”, that is, one of the first states in the European Union to launch a platform of this type.
“We must prioritize the use of housing as residential use,” said Rodríguez. “We must act to respond.” The minister has highlighted the 80% increase between 2010 and 2018 in tourist apartments, which in turn is affecting the number of homes available for habitual residence and is influencing their price. “We feel concerned,” said Rodríguez.
“I have confidence in this forum,” stressed Rodríguez, who wants to launch the new state platform in 2025 to combat “this fraud” in relation to the proliferation of tourist apartments that are straining the rental market.
Finally, the minister raised “what model of cities we want” in relation to the urban agenda, and assured that she defends “sustainable tourism”, but prioritizing access to housing for regular use.
