It also sends an internal message and asks the members to be aware of the “neutrality” of the CGPJ
MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The interim president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Vicente Guilarte, called on politicians this Friday to reduce tension, in a message addressed to Junts and PP senator José Antonio Monago, who in recent days have pointed out to different magistrates during their interventions in the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. “Leave us alone!” he said.
“Today we are witnesses of frequent and unfair attempts to delegitimize the Judiciary, sometimes carried out by representatives of public powers, for whom the ephemeral platform at their disposal facilitates their diatribe. We saw it on Tuesday in Congress and the Senate, Please reduce the tension, leave us alone,” he said during the 18th Awards ceremony of the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence.
However, he also wanted to send a message to the members of the CGPJ: “From within, let us also assume our neutrality, often distorted.” In this sense, he has emphasized that “judicial independence is bidirectional.” “Not to their interference in ours, but not to ours in theirs either,” she stressed.
In his opinion, “these episodes have a devastating effect, undermining citizens’ confidence in Justice”, which is why he has claimed that “no State power can be complicit in these campaigns, neither with their attitudes nor with their silences.” “.
In this regard, he has once again denounced the newly created investigative commissions in Congress to detect alleged cases of ‘lawfare’, stating that “no judge can be summoned by any commission to justify his jurisdictional conduct in an extravagant venue.”
“This path would imply a clash that seems brutal between powers of the State necessarily called for mutual respect, never confrontation,” he stressed, reiterating his call to “dilute the tension”, although he has shown himself aware that the path towards The “concord” that he claims “does not enjoy excessive passers-by.”
In this context, he has also once again “called for an adequate renewal of the Council” that guarantees that the next one appointed is “independent”, “so that he can fully dedicate his efforts to his own purposes.”
Despite everything, Guilarte has refused to give “an image of defeatism”, opting for “a hopeful message” because “society must continue to trust that the institutions, and above all, the Judiciary, will not relent in their endeavor”.
