The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles was the scene of the undisputed triumph of Everything at the same time everywhere, the great winner of the Oscars 2023, winning seven awards. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, directors of Everything at the same time everywhere, have shared the awards for best direction, best film and best original screenplay. It is the second time in history that two directors share three awards, and the first were Joel and Ethan Coen for No Country for Old Men.
In addition, Kwan and Scheinert are the third duo to win the Best Director Oscar, a record previously held only by Joel and Ethan Coen for No Country For Old Men and Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise for West Side Story.
Although Daniel Kwan was born in the United States, the filmmaker is of Chinese origin, thus becoming the first Chinese-born winner for best original screenplay.
The Oscar for Best Original Song went to M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose by Naatu Naatu for RRR movie. It is the first song performed in a language other than English to win in this category since Slumdog Millionaire’s Jai Ho 14 years ago. Naatu Naatu is an Indian song in the Telugu language.
Ruth E. Carter won the award for best costume design for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, thus becoming the first black woman to win more than one statuette. It was her second award after winning for Black Panther.
Brendan Fraser was another of the great protagonists of the evening, and it is that The whale (The whale) has earned him the Oscar for best actor. In this way, he has become the first Canadian to win this recognition.
Michelle Yeoh, born in Malaysia, is the first Southeast Asian performer to win the best actress award. Also, Ke Huy Quan is the first Vietnamese-born actor to win an Oscar.
All Quiet on the Front won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, the third German feature film to do so since 2000. Volker Bertelmann won the Best Original Score award for the same film, making 2023 the second year in a row. in which the prize has gone to a German composer. Hans Zimmer won last year for Dune.
