Granada, October 24, 2023.- 66.8% of Andalusian self-employed workers work more than 8 hours a day, closely followed by Valencians (63.3%) and Catalans (60.2%). For its part, in Galicia and the Community of Madrid more than 55% also recognize exceeding the 8-hour day.

The management services company for the self-employed and SMEs Infoautónomos and the University of Granada (UGR) analyze in depth the profiles of the self-employed in the main autonomous communities of the country, through the results of its IV National Study of the Self-Employed (ENA) .

Data that reflects both the common points and the main differences that self-employed workers have revealed based on their geographical area, thus helping to better understand what their reality and day-to-day life is like within their territorial context.

The IV National Study of the Self-Employed (ENA) presents a detailed analysis of the demographic profile and the situation of the Spanish self-employed in 2023. This allows us to specifically address both their characteristics and their main differences depending on the respective autonomous communities from which they manage. their businesses.

Thus, the real situation and key aspects of self-employed workers in the most representative autonomous communities of the country can be addressed.

To this end, the largest autonomies have been selected and for which the ENA has recorded the greatest number of responses: Community of Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Valencian Community and Galicia.

66.8% of Andalusian self-employed workers work more than 8 hours a day, followed by Valencians (63.3%) and Catalans (60.2%). While in Galicia and the Community of Madrid more than 55% also recognize exceeding the 8-hour day.

27.8% of Valencian self-employed workers and 26.7% of Andalusian self-employed workers acknowledge working more than 10 hours a day.

17.2% of the self-employed in the Valencian Community and Galicia state that they do not take a single day of vacation. For their part, more than 40% of Andalusians and Galicians report taking 10 days of vacation or less. While in the Community of Madrid 1 in 10 self-employed workers acknowledge taking more than 30 days off.

Andalusian self-employed workers are the ones who contribute the most for the minimum base (75.1%), while the Catalans are the ones who contribute the most for the maximum base (4.6%).

The self-employed in the Community of Madrid acknowledge that they have required the least financing for their businesses (45.4% of those surveyed), while 6 out of 10 Andalusians do indicate that they have required financing for their development and operation.

The autonomous community with the most unfavorable opinion on retirement benefits is Andalusia, since practically all of its self-employed workers (98%) recognize that this benefit remains at an amount that makes it very difficult to make ends meet.

The self-employed in Andalusia and Galicia are the ones who use corporate social networks the most, with percentages higher than 63%, while those from Madrid are the ones who use them the least in their businesses (only 50.3%).

Regarding sectors of activity, the following stand out: professional, scientific and technical activities in the Community of Madrid (23.6%) and Andalusia (23.2%), and wholesale, retail and hospitality trade in the Valencian Community (16.6%) and Andalusia (15.9%).

And although in general terms the majority of the self-employed are between 40 and 54 years old (48.1%), a slightly older age is detected among the self-employed in the Community of Madrid (33.4% are over 55 years old ) and Catalonia (31.0%).

Three quarters contribute for the minimum base, while only 0.7% do so for the maximum base. Regarding the need for financing for their businesses, only 40.1% claim to have required it.

Almost all of the self-employed in Andalusia (98.2%) negatively rate the retirement benefits available to them.

And regarding the use of corporate social networks in their businesses, the following stand out: Facebook (used by 52.3%), followed by Instagram (46.2%) and WhatsApp (37.2%).

The majority of self-employed people in Madrid are men, between 40 and 54 years old, who work an average of 9 to 10 hours a day, and indicate that they take between 1 and 10 days of vacation per year.

68.7% contribute for the minimum base, while 2.8% do so for the maximum base.

93.9% have a negative opinion of the retirement benefit available to them.

And regarding the use of corporate social networks in their businesses, the following stand out: Facebook (used by 35.9%), followed by Instagram (35.3%) and WhatsApp (27.6%).

Mostly, Catalan self-employed workers are men, between 40 and 54 years old, who work an average of 9 to 10 hours a day, and indicate that they take between 11 and 20 days of vacation per year.

While 63% contribute for the minimum base, 4.6% do so for the maximum base, and 51.1% indicate that they have not required financing at any time in the life of their businesses.

Regarding their assessment of the retirement benefit, 93.3% consider it insufficient to make ends meet.

And regarding the use of corporate social networks in their businesses, the following stand out: Instagram (used by 42.3%), followed by Facebook (33.5%) and WhatsApp (29.6%).

The majority of self-employed Valencians are men, between 40 and 54 years old, who work an average of 9 to 10 hours a day, and indicate that they take between 11 and 20 days of vacation per year.

65.1% contribute for the minimum base, while 2.4% do so for the maximum base.

Regarding their need for financing for their businesses, 55.0% indicate that they have required it.

Almost 96% of the self-employed in the Valencian Community rate the retirement benefit negatively.

And regarding the use of corporate social networks in their businesses, the following stand out: Instagram (used by 46.7%), followed by Facebook (39.6%) and WhatsApp (38.5%).

The majority of self-employed workers in Galicia are women, between 40 and 54 years old, who work an average of 9 to 10 hours a day, and indicate that they take between 1 and 10 days of vacation per year.

66.7% contribute for the minimum base, while none acknowledge doing so for the maximum base. Regarding the need for financing for their businesses, 57.0% indicate that they have required it at some point.

Furthermore, 95.7% have a poor assessment of the retirement benefit made available to them.

And in relation to the use of corporate social networks in their businesses, the following stand out: Facebook (used by 52.7%), followed by Instagram (51.6%) and WhatsApp (37.6%).
