The PP has signed the economist Fernando Navarrete, until now director of the cabinet of the governor of the Bank of Spain, Pablo Hernández de Cos, for its lists for the European Parliament elections to be held on June 9, according to ‘El Confidencial’. ‘ and confirmed by Europa Press in PP sources.

Navarrete, who resigned from his position this week, had held this position since September 2018, coinciding with the arrival of Hernández de Cos to the Bank of Spain. Graduated in Economics from the Complutense University, with an extraordinary award, he has held different positions in Public Administration, mainly during the PP governments.

Specifically, he was in charge of the General Secretariat of the Treasury (from April 2018 to June 2018) under the mandate of Román Escolano at the head of the Ministry of Economy, in the last Government of Mariano Rajoy, and previously he was responsible for finance of the Official Credit Institute (2012-2018) and director for five years (2007-2012) of the Economics area of ??the Faes foundation, chaired by the former president of the Government José María Aznar.

Navarrete is also a qualified economist from the Bank of Spain on leave and has completed postgraduate studies in Economics and Finance from the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (Cemfi) and in Security and Defense from the UCM-Superior Center for National Defense Studies ( Ceseden), while he has completed the Public Management Leadership Program at IESE.

Navarrete’s departure from the Bank of Spain occurs just two months before the non-extendable mandate of Hernández de Cos at the head of the monetary authority ends, which will force the Government to choose a replacement.

In his profile on the social network Linkedin, the new signing of the PP assures that “shock after shock and crisis after crisis”, he has come to the conclusion that it is essential to expand the understanding of economic and social dynamics to achieve political objectives “even more ambitious”, but now in a “more resilient and sustainable” way.

The signing of Navarrete is known one day after the PP confirmed that the former general secretary of Ciudadanos Adrián Vázquez will attend the next European elections on June 9 on the Popular Party list, of which two other orange MEPs will also be part Susana Solís and Eva Poptcheva.

Vázquez and Solís will be in starting positions, accompanying Dolors Montserrat within the top 20 places on the list, while Poptcheva will appear in the next section of the candidacy.
