MADRID, 11 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has welcomed the US Treasury Department’s decision to lift financial restrictions on Russian diplomatic missions.
“In general, we consider the decision of the US Administration to lift financial restrictions on Russian diplomatic missions, albeit late, but a step in the right direction,” explained the diplomat in response to the media, according to the office of the representation of Russia in a message posted on his Telegram channel.
“We hope that the banks will correctly perceive the signal from the financial regulator and stop blocking the transfers necessary to ensure the normal functioning of Russian foreign institutions,” Antonov said.
In addition, the ambassador explained that “a lot of work” has been necessary to “make Washington aware of the significant damage that sanctions inflict” on its diplomats “around the world.”
In this sense, he stressed that said measure by the US Treasury does not exempt him “from responsibility for the imbalances in world markets, caused by numerous illegitimate unilateral barriers”, thus blaming the US for the world economic and food crisis.
“I am referring to the increase in prices, the interruption of supply chains, the problems in the field of food safety,” Antonov explained.
Hours earlier, the US Treasury published a license that allows participation in operations necessary for the operation of diplomatic missions, with the exception of those persons and institutions blocked.
