Former soccer player and manager Clemente Villaverde will be the new president of the LaLiga FOUNDATION for the next four years, in another step within the cultural entity of which he was already a member and which organizes the LaLiga Genuine Santander competition.
“The LaLiga FOUNDATION formalized yesterday the appointment of Clemente Villaverde Huelga (Cangas de Onís, Asturias, 1959), as the new president of the entity for a period of four years,” LaLiga reported.
From the foundation they highlight that Clemente Villaverde has a long professional career in LaLiga –first vice-president from 2013 to 2021– and in the LaLiga FOUNDATION, in which he was linked in the last decade as Member and later as vice-president of the Board of Trustees.
Graduated in law from the Complutense University of Madrid, Villaverde spent his professional career at Atlético de Madrid for 29 years –as director or manager– and also in the 2020/21 season, he was general manager of Getafe CF.
In his sporting facet, Villaverde stood out as a professional footballer, playing a total of 10 seasons in the First Division (1981-1990) with Atlético de Madrid, with whom he won a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup, and also played for Málaga Club. de Fútbol, ??the team in which he concluded his football career.
“The new president of the LaLiga FOUNDATION will be linked immediately to the entity’s activity calendar, whose lines of action are aimed at education, training, social inclusion and strategic management of SR and sustainability,” explained the entity.
