The current leader of the Republican minority in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, has assured this Wednesday that the Republican Party has won enough seats to control the body and has stressed that “it is clear” that “they are going to recover the House.”
“I want to thank millions of supporters in this country. It is clear that we are going to recover the Chamber,” he said. “When they wake up tomorrow, we will be in the majority and (the speaker of the House of Representatives) Nancy Pelosi will be in the minority,” she said, according to the US television network Fox News.
McCarthy, who has taken the Republican victory for granted despite the fact that many seats have not yet been assigned and the race in several of them is not decided, has stressed that “if you believe in freedom, hard work and the dream American, these results show that there is a place for you in the Republican Party.
For her part, Pelosi has refused to concede a Democratic defeat in the House of Representatives and pointed out that “although many of the votes are still too disputed to pronounce, it is clear that the members of the House of Representatives and the Democratic candidates are surpassing far exceeds the expectations throughout the country.
The House of Representatives and the Senate, where Democrats currently hold a narrow majority, are up for grabs in these midterm legislative elections as they are narrowly divided. Right now, Republicans are ahead in the House of Representatives, while Democrats are favorites in the Senate.
