The United States government has accused the North Korean regime of clandestinely supplying weapons to Russia so that it can be used in the context of the war in Ukraine, which would add a new political front to the conflict that broke out in February.

US intelligence attributes Pyongyang sending artillery shells in “significant” quantities, according to a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, John Kirby, quoted by CNN. Washington suspects that North Korean authorities are disguising these shipments as ammunition for countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

In September, the Kim Jong Un regime denied that it was collaborating militarily with Russia, but Kirby has stated that there is evidence to the contrary, with a “real destination” of the weapons that is nothing like what the asian country. “We will continue to monitor whether these shipments are received,” Kirby said.

The North Korean involvement would be added to that of Iran, which would have supplied Russia mainly with kamikaze drones, used by Russian forces during the wave of attacks launched in recent weeks on urban centers and strategic infrastructure, mainly energy.
