He will not negotiate next year’s Budgets until they meet the previous year’s commitments

The first secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, called on the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, this Wednesday, not to use the financing as an “excuse for not doing the work that corresponds” to the Government and not to insist on approaches that he considers they divide

“Catalonia needs good, fair and agreed financing, but we also need a Government that does not use financing as an excuse for not doing the work it is supposed to do in terms of education, water supply, renewable energy infrastructure and in matter of infrastructures that connect us to the world”, he highlighted during a visit to Cervera (Lleida) in response to Aragonès’ Christmas message.

For Illa, citizens also need a Government that “unites Catalans and does not insist on divisive approaches” as well as that criticizes itself and recognizes the alleged errors of recent years.

“This is not the time in Catalonia, given the balance of these last 10 years, for triumphalist speeches. A spirit of service is needed to recover excellence in Catalonia” in the coming year, he noted.

And, according to Illa, Catalonia must “recover excellence” in education following the results of the PISA 2022 report, to ensure and guarantee the supply of water, and in terms of infrastructure and renewable energy.

Regarding the negotiation of the 2024 Budget project, he reiterated that they have not begun to negotiate them with the Catalan Executive while waiting “for the fulfillment of the agreements” they reached in this year’s.

“I do not question the credibility of Aragonès, but if the 2023 agreements are not met, we will not open negotiations for 2024,” stressed Illa, who explained that they are in a previous phase of collecting proposals throughout the territory.
