MUNICH (GERMANY), 17 Oct. (dpa/EP) –
Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane suffered a muscle injury in his thigh and will be absent “for the moment”, so he will not be available for the Cup match before Augsburg on Wednesday, as will goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, with shoulder problems, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Bavarian club.
FC Bayern have to do without Leroy Sané for the time being. The 26-year-old suffered a tear in the back of his left thigh during the 5-0 home win against Freiburg on Sunday,” Bayern said.
Sané’s absence is bad news for Bayern, as the German winger was having a great time, especially on the scoring side. Sané has scored in the last three games for the Bavarian team, with 10 total goals this season in all competitions.
Thus, the German international would have a hard time being next Wednesday, October 26, against FC Barcelona in the Champions League, a key duel for the Catalans, who need to win to stay alive in the competition. Also doubtful for the key European match will be striker Thomas Müller, who suffers from back problems, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has a shoulder injury. Neither will play the match against Augsburg this Wednesday.
Bayern have already said they will take no chances with Neuer, who also missed last week’s Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen and Sunday’s league game, with Sven Ulreich taking his place.
“I don’t want him to take painkillers all the time and play. We have ‘Manu’ (Neuer), this year and next. Therefore, we just have to see that the shoulder heals quickly,” said the coach of the German team, Julian Nagelsmann, speaking to DAZN.
