The Spanish vertical farming company will reduce its CO? costs by 79% by deploying Skytree technology in its cultivation processes
(Madrid, December 11, 2023.-) Skytree, a pioneering company in climate technology dedicated to the development of advanced and innovative CO? capture and reuse solutions, has announced that the indoor vertical farming company, Néboda Farms, has joined to the company’s Pioneer Program and will deploy the Skytree Cumulus Direct Air Capture (DAC) unit early next year. Once installed, Néboda Farms will have the capacity to generate up to 12 kg of clean and affordable CO? directly on its farm to improve sustainable food production.
“As pioneers in the vertical farming sector, we are very happy to be among the first to adopt DAC technology and to collaborate with Skytree in the introduction to the market of the first on-site CO? generation units,” said Iván García Besada, CEO of Néboda Farms. “Joining the Pioneer Program is a great opportunity for both Néboda and Skytree. DAC technology has the potential to further increase the sustainability benefits of vertical farming. We intend to encourage the adoption of this technology by other companies Through the implementation of this revolutionary technology, Néboda will achieve a reduction in CO? costs of up to 79%. In this sense, we will play a key role in the decarbonization of the value chain and, ultimately, in the reduction of CO? levels in the atmosphere”.
Based in Spain, Néboda Farms’ mission is to revolutionize agriculture and produce fresher, tastier, more nutritious and pesticide-free foods in a more sustainable way. In a market as demanding as that of fresh products, the vertical farming company manages to introduce its products of distinctive quality and market them to the best restaurants, paying special attention to basil, the company’s star product. In the future, the company plans to enter the retail sector with basil and salad mixes, while continuing to expand its production capacity.
Néboda Farms deploys and enhances a wide range of its own technologies, automation and control processes, robotics and big data to support its production processes in order to offer competitive prices, which is one of the weak points in the vertical farming sector. . By joining Skytree’s Pioneer Programme, the company will be one of the first to benefit from DAC technology, moving away from the traditional fossil fuel-based CO? supply chain.
Skytree’s patented DAC technology captures CO? from the environment, filters it through a patented process and stores it in pressurized tanks from which any company that regularly requires concentrated CO? can access and reuse it. Skytree Cumulus, the first modular unit available on the market, will provide reliable and uninterrupted supply to CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) companies, helping to alleviate supply and transportation problems. In September, the company announced the commercial availability of Skytree Cumulus units and the launch of the Pioneer Program, which offers priority delivery of Cumulus units when they ship in early 2024, at a temporarily reduced price.
“Vertical farms need CO? to operate efficiently and profitably,” says Camille Hanna, Director of Business Development at Skytree. “Néboda Farms is one of the first of many controlled environment agricultural companies that will benefit from the ability to generate their own CO? on site. And they will do so in a more sustainable and ecological way, avoiding the harmful processes used by fuel companies “We are very pleased to welcome Néboda Farms to the Skytree Pioneer Program and look forward to helping the company meet its CO? needs using our patented DAC technology.”
