SINGAPORE, May 21, 2024/PRNewswire/ — Vantage Foundation proudly announces its partnership with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) to empower Malaysia’s indigenous Orang Asli communities through education. This collaboration underscores the Vantage Foundation’s mission to draw attention to the invisible challenges facing marginalized communities around the world.

The Vantage Foundation will offer strategic support to TFM initiatives that address the educational challenges of Orang Asli students, with the aim of raising awareness and empowering them to reach their full potential.

“Our partnership with Teach For Malaysia highlights our commitment to inclusive education and empowering marginalized communities, especially the Orang Asli, to thrive,” said Steven Xie, CEO of Vantage Foundation.

TFM’s experience in recruiting, training and supporting teachers aligns with the Vantage Foundation’s mission to promote social mobility and inclusive education. Together they aim to break down systemic barriers and empower the Orang Asli community.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Vantage Foundation to empower our children through education,” said Fam Li Ying, Chief Growth Officer of Teach For Malaysia. “Together, we hope to realize the vision of all Malaysian children having access to quality education.”

A striking example is Shawn Stanly, a teacher at a school in Banun. Shawn’s innovative teaching methods create an immersive learning environment where imaginations thrive and dreams take shape. His method builds bridges between students and unfamiliar concepts, fostering a love of learning.

For example, Shawn wowed his students by transforming their classroom into the interior of an airplane. Inspired by a student’s desire to travel by plane, Shawn created a “flight simulation” to broaden his horizons. Despite his limited resources, Shawn dressed as a pilot and transformed the classroom into the cockpit of an airplane, with a makeshift projector in the window. Using a loudspeaker, he guided his mesmerized students through a virtual journey on Air Banun to destinations such as Paris and the Himalayas, sharing fascinating facts along the way.

“This experience opened their minds to the world beyond their village,” said Shawn, whose passion for teaching is evident. “It’s not just a job, it’s a vocation,” she added with a smile, underscoring his commitment to empowering Orang Asli communities through education.

The partnership between Vantage Foundation and Teach For Malaysia marks an important step forward towards educational equity and social justice in Malaysia. Through collaboration and experience, they aim to transform the lives of Orang Asal students across the country.
