BRUSSELS, 20 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made a surprise trip to kyiv on Thursday, his first visit to Ukraine since the start of the Russian military aggression 14 months ago.

A spokesman for the Atlantic Alliance has confirmed to Europa Press that Stoltenberg is in Ukraine this Thursday, without providing further details for the moment about the agenda he will have during his visit to the country.

Until now, NATO had avoided the image of the Secretary General in Ukraine and a photograph of Stoltenberg with the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, has not been produced due to the possible implications in the context of the war, despite the fact that the foreign ministers and Defense have participated in meetings at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

This visit comes a day before he will participate in a meeting at the Ramstein airbase, Germany, of the Contact Group for Ukraine, the coalition of 50 countries that is helping Ukraine militarily against the Russian invasion.
