BARCELONA, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Civil Protection of the Generalitat has deactivated the alert of the Special Plan for aeronautical emergencies (Aerocat) and the special one for radiological emergencies (Radcat) when it did not detect danger in a damaged box containing radioactive material at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
As reported by the Generalitat in a note in ‘X’ collected by Europa Press, the measures and checks carried out by the Civil Protection Coordination Service for Radioactive Activities (Scar) have given a score of 0.
The alert was activated this Tuesday morning after emergency services detected damage to the outer cardboard that protected a box with “low-intensity” radioactive material in a package from the hold of an Air Swiss aircraft.
Due to the alert, the 143 passengers who had to leave have remained on the plane and shortly after activating the alert they have been transferred to a room at the airport waiting to continue their journey once the checks have been completed, the Generalitat has reported in a statement.
13 units of the Generalitat Firefighters have moved to the scene, including members of the Technological Risk Group (Grit) and the chemical risk van, as well as two units of the Medical Emergency System (SEM) specialized in health care in chemical risk situations and added risk.
