The Gaza Strip was left without electricity this Wednesday after the authorities warned of an imminent blackout due to a lack of fuel in the only power plant in the Palestinian enclave, which is subject to a strong blockade by Israel.
The Palestinian Quds news agency has indicated that the entire Gaza Strip is now in a blackout. Gazan authorities have previously noted that this “will make it impossible to deliver the most basic services” to the local population, who depend on electricity and generally operate with electricity generators due to the prohibition on supplying fuel to the area from the Rafah crossing.
“This endangers the lives of 2.3 million people, which is why an urgent alert has been issued to ask for help from the international community and its humanitarian organizations,” they stated before emphasizing the need to move forward to ” stop the devastating Israeli bombings and meet the needs of the Gaza Strip,” according to information collected by the Maan agency.
The Israeli authorities have called the Palestinian population in the area “human animals” and have stressed that “there will only be destruction” after the offensive launched on Saturday by Hamas: “You wanted hell and you will have hell,” the Israeli government said on Tuesday. Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Ghasán Alian. “Israel has imposed a total blockade on Gaza. There will be no electricity or water, only destruction,” he concluded.
