The new director of Escrivá’s cabinet will be Agustina Piedrabuena, a former employee of Telefónica and Ericsson

The Council of Ministers has appointed Mayte Ledo as the new Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, a position in which she will take over from Carme Artigas, who officially left office on December 28, as reported by the Ministry of Transformation. Digital and Public Service in a statement.

Until now, Ledo served as cabinet director of the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, José Luis Escrivá.

Previously, he was responsible for costs and investments at BBVA and held various positions of responsibility in the entity. She has a degree in Economic Sciences from the University of Valladolid and has postgraduate studies at the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (Cemfi) and doctoral courses in Economic Analysis at the Complutense University of Madrid.

On the other hand, the Executive has also appointed Iria Álvarez Besteiro as undersecretary of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service.

Álvarez has a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management and belongs to the Higher Corps of Commercial Technicians and State Economists.

Between 2020 and November 2023 she was technical general secretary in the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration – the portfolio that Escrivá previously headed – and since November 2023 she was undersecretary of Digital Transformation.

Likewise, the Council of Ministers has also appointed Agustina Piedrabuena Moraleda as director of the cabinet of the minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service.

“Until now she was an advisory member of the Minister’s cabinet and had previously been in the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transformation and in the Secretariats of State for Digital Advancement and Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure,” added the portfolio headed by Escrivá in a release.

Piedrabuena is a senior Telecommunications engineer and has worked in the private sector at Telefónica, Ericsson, Telefónica Móviles and Altran SDB. Likewise, she was general director for the Information Society and Telecommunications of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha.

Artigas held the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence from 2020 to the end of 2023 and is a recognized expert in artificial intelligence – last October she was selected by the UN to co-chair the new supervisory body for this technology -, ‘big data ‘ and technological innovation that has around 30 years of experience in the industry.

On December 19, during an event on artificial intelligence and new technologies organized by the economic newspaper ‘Expansión’, she announced her decision to leave her position as Secretary of State to prepare her return to the private sector.

At that moment, she thanked the Minister of Digital Transformation, José Luis Escrivá, for the trust placed in her after reaffirming her in the position to be able to finish the stage of the Spanish presidency of the European Union (EU), which ended on December 31.

In this sense, one of the Government’s main objectives for the EU presidency was to reach an agreement for the future regulation on artificial intelligence, which is expected to be officially published next May after the intense negotiations that culminated at the beginning of the year. last December.

In the business world, she has also stood out for being co-founder and CEO of Synergic Partners, a company that was acquired by Telefónica in 2015.
