MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
‘The Snow Society’, the film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, is nominated for the Golden Globe for best foreign language film. The 81st Annual Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024.
The film by the Spanish director, which recounts the real tragedy of Flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force that took place in 1972, will compete with the French film ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ by Justine Triet, the Italian ‘I Captain’ by Matteo Garrone, the Finnish ‘Fallen Leaves’ by Aki Kaurismäki, the British ‘The Zone of Interest’ by Jonathan Glazer and ‘Past Lives’ by Celine Song.
‘The Snow Society’ is already one of the big favorites for the Goya Awards, where it has 13 nominations. Furthermore, Bayona’s film has been the film chosen by academics to represent Spain at the Hollywood Academy Awards, which will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 10.
Comedian Cedric the Entertainer and actor Wilmer Valderrama (‘That ’70s Show’) were in charge of announcing the nominations, accompanied by Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA.
Considered for decades as the prelude to the Oscars and the most high-profile Hollywood awards behind the awards given by the Academy, after various controversies and scandals, the Golden Globes received a severe setback in 2021, when the Los Angeles Times revealed that the organization did not included no black members, in addition to having carried out “unethical conduct and suspicious financial practices.”
The controversy led to the cancellation of the broadcast of the 2022 Golden Globes, which last year returned to television in a gala that, hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, did not meet expectations and featured notable absences from some stars. They refused to attend the ceremony. In fact, in an attempt to regain the public’s attention, the awards have two new categories and will award the best blockbuster and best live comedy monologue on television.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the usual venue for the awards, and will be broadcast in the United States on the CBS network. and it can also be followed live in streaming through the Paramount platform.
