MADRID, 18 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The year-on-year inflation rate in the United Kingdom stood at 6.7% last September, in line with the rise in prices the previous month, despite market expectations of a moderation in the data, as reported this Wednesday the British Office of National Statistics (ONS, for its acronym in English).
In this way, the increase in the cost of living in the second largest economy of the Old Continent continues to be notably higher than that of other large economies, since the inflation rate of the euro zone in the same month moderated to 4.3 % from 5.2% in August, while in the United States it repeated at 3.7%.
In the ninth month of 2023, the year-on-year increase in the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages in the United Kingdom was 12.1%, compared to the 13.6% increase in the previous month.
For its part, transportation became more expensive by 0.7% year-on-year in September, after a drop of 0.5% in August, while education increased its cost by 4.1%, compared to an increase of 3.2%. of August.
Thus, the core CPI, which excludes the volatility of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices, moderated slightly in September, to 6.1%, one tenth less than in August.
In monthly terms, in the ninth month of the year prices registered an increase of 0.5%, compared to an increase of 0.3% in August. In line with the monthly increase registered in September of last year.
