ALICANTE, 11 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Technological Research and Innovation Center (Aitex) has presented its new sustainable certification, which testifies and guarantees the biodegradability and compostability of textile products, regardless of the type of product, packaging or material.

This certificate is designed to help consumers and companies make “more sustainable” decisions when choosing textiles, according to the research institute in a statement.

Biodegradability and compostability are “key concepts” to reduce environmental impact, since they allow products to decompose naturally and without leaving toxic residues, which “will also benefit the environment.”

The new Aitex certificate guarantees that the products have been evaluated in accordance with international standards and that they meet the necessary requirements to be considered biodegradable and compostable, as explained by the entity.

In this way, he added, the companies “will improve the life cycle of the textile, help reduce the carbon footprint and eliminate final waste”. In addition, he has stressed that they will be products “more in demand in the market due to the increased awareness of sustainability.”

The certificate is based on “rigorous tests” that evaluate the biodegradability and compostability of the products. These tests are carried out under controlled conditions, which simulate the natural environment in which the products would be discarded, and those who pass them will receive this badge.

Aitex has highlighted that it is “a valuable tool for consumers and companies that seek to make more sustainable decisions”. “It allows companies to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and helps consumers identify products that are respectful of nature,” she said.

The new biodegradability and compostability certificate for textiles has been created by Aitex based on national and international test standards and requirements, and by a leading technology center for research, development and innovation in the textile sector, as explained.

The general director of Aitex, Vicente Blanes, has stressed that the launch of this new certificate is “one more step” towards its objective of promoting more sustainable practices in the industry. “It is essential to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable future,” he concluded.
