MADRID, 11 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has affirmed this Thursday that the Democratic Party has “a good chance” of maintaining control of the House of Representatives, all while the vote count of the ‘midterm’ continues.

Asked about the possibility of his party taking power in the Lower House, Biden has pointed out, according to a White House statement, that it is still possible, especially after in recent hours they have closed the gap with the Republican Party.

“It’s still alive. It’s still alive. But it’s like drawing an internal line,” said the US president in a huddle with journalists minutes before embarking on a trip to Egypt to attend the COP27 climate summit.

However, Biden has confessed to having spoken with the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, whom he congratulated in the event that the Republicans finally take control of the Lower House.

Right now the race to get the majority of 218 seats in the House of Representatives is being won by the Republican Party with 211 seats. Meanwhile, the Democrats have 198 seats, although a turnaround in the results is still possible.

Most of the states that remain to be scrutinized are of Democratic tradition, such as California, New Mexico or Washington, so the seats that are still up for grabs could opt for the majority for Biden.
