MADRID, 2 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the Western media during a conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdolahian of launching an international campaign to escalate tensions in the Gulf region.

“In the conditions of a difficult international situation, it can turn into a dangerous escalation of tension in this strategically important area of ??the world,” Lavrov said, according to a Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

The United States expressed concern on Tuesday about a possible “imminent” attack by Iran against targets in Saudi Arabia, according to senior Saudi and US officials, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

In response to this warning by the intelligence services of both countries, Saudi Arabia, the United States and several neighboring states raised the alert level of their military forces, according to the aforementioned newspaper.

Concerns about a possible attack on the Saudi capital, Riyadh, come after the Biden Administration criticized Tehran for both its crackdown on protests following the death of young Mahsa Amini and for allegedly sending drones to Russia in the framework of the Ukrainian war.
