MADRID, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Russian government announced this Thursday the start of a series of “preparation” military maneuvers on the west bank of the Dnieper River, which runs from Russian territory to Ukraine through Belarus.

Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov has indicated that military units “are already preparing” in the Mikolaiv area “according to the established plan,” according to the Interfax news agency.

Thus, the Russian authorities are preparing to carry out defense works in the Jerson region after the authorities announced the withdrawal of their troops in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the maneuvers, saying units would be formed to “occupy the defense lines on the western side of the river.”

“Our actions regarding Jerson will depend on the tactical military situation, which is very complicated. We will act conscientiously, appropriately and at the precise time,” Armed Forces General Sergei Surovikin has asserted.

On Wednesday, Shoigu himself tasked Surovikin with organizing the troop withdrawal and putting in place the necessary measures to ensure the safe transfer of personnel, weapons and equipment across the river.
