The Attorney General’s Office has prosecuted eight people for detonating a car bomb and killing police officers

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, reported this Wednesday that more than 50 people have been arrested to be brought to justice accused of participating in the violent acts that have taken place in recent days in the Ecuadorian provinces of Guayas and Esmeraldas.

In a speech to the population of Ecuador on national television, the Ecuadorian president has detailed that “53 criminals” will be brought to justice so that they “pay for their misdeeds,” according to ‘El Telégrafo’.

The arrest of these dozens of people responds to an operation carried out by the Government of Ecuador in order to reduce violence in Guayas and Esmeraldas in prisons and on the streets.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) we were deliberately attacked by sabotage and terrorist attacks orchestrated by drug criminals. These attacks sought to generate fear and chaos, but they have not succeeded,” Lasso said, according to the newspaper ‘El Universo’.

“Let the drug criminals know that our hands will not shake. And let them know that those who are on the side of the criminals will have the repudiation of all Ecuadorians,” he asserted.

Ecuador was the scene of a series of violent acts on Tuesday in the provinces of Guayas and Esmeraldas, both in the north, which have resulted in at least five dead policemen and for which nearly thirty suspects have already been arrested. .

After the violent day, Lasso announced the suspension of a visit to the United States and declared a state of emergency in both provinces, implementing a curfew that will be in force for the next 45 days.

EIGHT PROSECUTED BY THE EXPLOSION OF A CAR BOMB

The Ecuadorian Attorney General’s Office has prosecuted eight people, including two teenagers, for allegedly committing crimes of attempted murder.

The detainees would have participated in a shootout –with rifles and pistols– against police officers, on the afternoon of November 1 on one of the main roads of the Durán canton, in the province of Guayas, as detailed by the Public Ministry in a release.

In addition, the defendants would have attacked the integrity of police officers on active duty by detonating vehicles with bombs in the vicinity of several gas stations and police stations.
