MADRID, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Agents of the United States Capitol Police have arrested three people suspected of carrying weapons in a car that was parked around the US Congress on Wednesday.

Specifically, a woman and two men have been arrested by the Police after the agents found a shotgun and two pistols inside a white van that had suspiciously parked in the surroundings of the Capitol, where it is prohibited to carry any type firearm, according to CNN.

At around 3:45 p.m. local time, police officers noticed that the van was illegally parked on East Capitol Street. After approaching the vehicle, one of the detainees, an 80-year-old man, has confessed that he had weapons inside it.

“The detained individuals told our investigators that they were here to serve documents on the Supreme Court of the United States,” said a statement from Capitol Police.

Security on Capitol Hill has been heightened since the January 6, 2021, assault by loyalists to then-US President Donald Trump, who sought to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

Concerns for the welfare of Supreme Court justices increased in June when a gunman was arrested outside the home of High Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The 26-year-old had allegedly “made threats” against the magistrate, who was crucial in reversing Roe v. Wade, the legal precedent that made abortion a federal right in 1973 until last June, reported DPA.
