The Dcoop Group, the Spanish agri-food cooperative made up of 75,000 farmers and ranchers, has received authorization from China to export almonds to the Asian market, according to a statement.
Specifically, the Spanish firm has indicated that this authorization represents an “important step” to expand the marketing of Mediterranean almonds to the Asian giant.
On March 31, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and the General Customs Administration of the People’s Republic of China signed the conditions for importing Spanish almonds for human consumption into China. These conditions are included in a phytosanitary protocol as a result of which, and on November 14, Dcoop has been a pioneer in achieving registration to export almonds to China.
The nuts section of the Spanish cooperative has had exponential growth since its creation a few years ago. In addition, it has increased the number of partners, has signed an industrial alliance with Importaco, has built a large almond splitter in Villarrubia (Córdoba) and has a production of 8,000 tons of almond grain, which places it at the forefront of the almond sector. In 2022, Dcoop began its foreign marketing worth more than 1.5 million euros, something that it plans to increase significantly during the 2023-2024 campaign, to which the opening to China will undoubtedly contribute, which also joins to the first almond exports to India.
