MADRID, 10 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Rescue services have detected this Friday a fishing boat with more than 500 migrants on board, including women and children, near the coast of Sicily.
According to sources from the newspaper ‘La Repubblica’, the barge was sighted for the first time by a mission plane from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), while the NGO Alarm Phone has already been able to contact some of the travelers
“They have called us from the Search and Rescue area of ??Italy and we have already alerted the corresponding authorities. We cannot waste any more time and help must be sent immediately,” the NGO has made known on its Twitter account.
The ship would have left the Libyan region of Cyrenaica, in the east of the country and, according to the latest estimates by Alarm Phone, at 9:00 this morning, Spanish peninsular time, it was still heading towards the Sicilian coast of Syracuse.
