MADRID, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, assures this Thursday that his Real Madrid counterpart, Florentino Pérez, wants to “kill the national leagues” and was convinced that the project of the European Football Super League promoted by the Perez himself.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper ‘Tuttosport’ collected by Europa Press, Javier Tebas denied that Spanish football is losing fans among the younger sector, since, according to data from LaLiga, the audience for those under 24 has increased by 22 percent. percent in the last four seasons.
In his opinion, Juventus and FC Barcelona support the Super League project because Florentino Pérez “constantly pressures” them. “It is the president of Real who drags them because he is someone who does not like to lose even in table games,” he said.
Tebas admitted that Real Madrid and LaLiga have “some common enemies” such as the clubs that “are only sustainable thanks to the millionaire injections of their owners” from the ‘Premier League’, the Italian Serie A and the French League.
“But the solution is not a new competition because both the Super League presented in April 2021 and the one they want to offer us now would destroy the national championships and, in the long run, even the same clubs that offer it today,” he warned.
In this sense, the president of the club management declared himself convinced that the new continental competition will not see the light of day. “There will never be a Super League. However, the damage they are causing is irreparable. They are creating a sense of uncertainty in the sector and they are doing it based on lies and ignorance,” he said.
