La Real resists a draw against an indecisive Valencia
MADRID, 6 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Betis and Sevilla FC shared the points, goals and sticks (1-1) in the Benito Villamarín derby, on matchday 13 that also left Real Sociedad tied (1-1) against a Valencia that lacked ambition and the crisis at the first change of Villarreal de Quique Setién, with the 0-2 conceded against Mallorca.
The derby of the Andalusian capital was once again a war in which, in its heat, the expulsions were charged first of the visitor Montiel and, later, of the Betis Fekir and Borja Iglesias. The joy was for neighboring neighborhoods, with a Betis that had to play with one less almost the entire second half.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men were unable to defend Jesús Navas’ 1-0 own goal in the 43rd minute due to a Gudelj missile in the 81st minute. descent, he taught his vertical and electric football, while Sevilla preferred to grow with the ball. In the stopped ball, Rafa Mir almost made the first own.
Fekir launched that dangerous free kick and shortly after he had another one, while Ruibal pardoned a precious action by Betis. Sevilla breathed when he had possession and had his options when he pressed his rival up, with some gift that he did not take advantage of. In the 38th minute the first red came, from Montiel for a tackle on Álex Moreno’s knee, and in the 43rd minute, the 1-0 carom.
Canales slipped between the central defenders and Gudelj’s clearance hit Navas, Sampaoli’s change after the red, heading towards the goal until he saw the net with an also unlucky Bono. Villamarín roared when Betis was also left with 10 due to a red against Fekir for elbowing Papu Gómez before the break.
Sánchez Martínez made the decision also watching what happened on VAR TV and, after the break, went back to the sideline to send off Borja Iglesias for a stomp on Jordán from behind and on the ankle. Betis then saw the derby in danger despite having the clearest chances, such as the sentence of ‘Panda’ at the end of the first half or another one-on-one with Álex Moreno already in the second.
However, Sevilla lacked punch once again, with En-Nesyri with the peephole deflected. Edgar became a giant in the Betis defense and Pellegrini’s men reduced without suffering too much, until Gudelj’s ball, like the one he signed in Mallorca, from the edge. The Serbian player himself had two more, a crossbar and a save by Claudio Bravo in the last play of a very intense derby.
At the Reale Arena, the match was conditioned by Aritz Elustondo’s red card in the 17th minute. By then, the local team was already 1-0 in their favor, in a rebound play that ended in Hugo’s own goal Guillamon. With one less, the Real had to put into practice a resistance exercise and take the point for good, although they are three days in a row without winning.
Less happy was a Valencia that lacked decision, after in the 25th minute they already achieved 1-1 through Samuel Lino. The player on loan from Atlético de Madrid was the best of the ‘che’ team, by insistence, although on the other side, Alexander Sorloth wore himself down unreservedly to give Real air.
Gennaro Gattuso took time to decide on the changes and go for the game, already in the last half hour. Marcos André had the clearest chance for Valencia, while Sorloth was able to round off his MVP also with another good chance. The ‘che’ team did not take advantage of the option of bringing the European train closer and has gone five days without winning.
On the other hand, Villarreal suffered a worrying defeat in their last game at Ciudad de Valencia before returning home. The era of Quique Setién is still without victory after four games, with an unrecognizable team compared to the one led by Unai Emery. Mallorca, with 16 points and great sensations due to solidity and punch, embroidered their performance with a decisive Muriqi, who uncovered the discontent of the stands due to substance and form.
The Kosovar striker scored his seventh league goal with the first ball he touched in the rival area. Jaume Costa had forgiven a one-on-one but Muriqi began to bring out the colors of a Villarreal with possession at a very low pace and not an overflow. Mallorca remained comfortable in the second half and Amath Ndiaye scored the 2-0 goal that condemned the ‘submarine’ to give up a lot of ground with Europe.
The blow was even harder because Samu Chukwueze had equalized in the previous play, with a ball that hit the crossbar. With the whistles from the yellow fans and a Quique Setién with a disgruntled gesture, Mallorca left with a win without discussion against a Villarreal that misses a lot an Emery who thrashed Manchester United this Sunday with Aston Villa.
