The Serb beats Casper Ruud in the Turin final and leaves a strong warning for 2023

MADRID, 20 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic defeated (7-5, 6-3) this Sunday the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the final of the Masters Cup held at the Pala Alpitour in Turin, champion for the sixth time among the best of the season although for the first time since 2015, to match the title record of Swiss Roger Federer.

The one from Belgrade finishes on top in 2022 and as a rival to beat for 2023, despite the fact that he started the year with the unpleasant episode of his deportation in Australia. The 21 ‘big’ champion closed his way undefeated in Turin, with a perfect ATP Finals and almost five million euros in prize money.

‘Nole’ knocked down a Ruud in an hour and a half who had his third prestigious final of the year before him, after Roland Garros and the US Open, but again he was left with honey on his lips. The Norwegian had personality and confidence to withstand the aggressiveness of his rival from the beginning, saving three ‘break’ balls.

In the fourth, Djokovic achieved the break, which also gave him the first set (7-5). Without giving options with his serve, the Serb broke on the only ‘break’ ball that he had in the second set (3-1) and, with it, he walked firmly towards the reconquest of the Masters Cup.

The Serb equals the record of six titles that Federer had and returns to raise the appointment that brings together the eight best of the season after doing so for the last time in 2015. The Wimbledon champion, who has already won before in Rome on a good tour on land, he warmed up in the second part of the season.

He could not play at the US Open, because he was not vaccinated against coronavirus, but before Turin he also won in Tel Aviv and Astana, and made the final in Paris-Bercy. Djokovic is once again ‘Jackal’ and for the next Australian Open he already has permission, with a level that showed the youngsters this week that they still have to wait a bit longer.
