Animoca Brands acquires Grease Monkey, an Australian game developer
Grease Monkey Games, a Melbourne-based developer of motorsport games, will continue to operate under the current management. However, it will align its blockchain-related efforts alongside Animoca Brands.
Grease Monkey will operate as before, but it will merge its efforts in blockchain integration, NFTs, and play-to earn capabilities with those of Animoca.
The financial terms of the acquisition are not known. CoinDesk reached out to Animoca for more information but they have not yet responded.
Animoca Brands has many metaverse-related ventures. F1 Delta Time is a play-to-earn game that features motorsport. It uses Animoca’s REVV token to its native currency.
According to an Animoca email announcement, REVV will be integrated in Grease Monkey’s games.
Animoca’s portfolio of investments includes the play-to-earn Axie Infinity, Dapper Labs, which is behind NBA Top Shot, and OpenSea. OpenSea is the largest NFT trading platform. Animoca’s latest round of funding, which was almost $360 million in total, has brought its value to $5.5 billion.
