Blames the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East on the “lack of deterrence capacity” of the United States

The former president of the Government, José María Aznar, rejected this Thursday the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine, claiming that it would be “absurd” to recognize the Palestinian territory as such because “it does not exist.” In addition, he has called on Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to end his “operation” in Gaza due to the risk of an outbreak in the Middle East.
“To those who refer to the creation of a Palestinian State, what do they mean by a Palestinian State? That does not exist. That is absurd,” said the ‘popular’ former president at the conference ‘Iran and its relationship with the crisis in the Middle East’ organized by the FAES foundation that he presides.
Precisely this Wednesday the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured in a press conference in Doha, with which he put an end to a two-day tour of several Middle Eastern countries, that in addition to proceeding to recognize Palestine as a State “as soon as possible”, the Government will “support the entry of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.”
Aznar’s statements also distance themselves from the position that the PP has maintained. In the electoral program with which Alberto Núñez Feijóo ran for the general elections on July 23, there is also talk of the two States. “We must work to resolve conflicts, especially the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, through the two-state solution,” the document says verbatim.
During his speech, Aznar pointed out that we should “talk first about the hostages, how to maintain security and then how to maintain coexistence”, while warning Netanyahu of the risk “not that Hamas wins militarily”, but that “Israel loses politically” and that this leads to “an explosion in the Middle East” and a scenario in which “the one who sets the law would be Hamas.”
Likewise, Aznar recalled that “this conflict exists because of an attack by Hamas on Israel”, and has criticized the fact that there is not a “single international position” regarding the conflict that “starts with freeing the kidnapped people.”
In this sense, he has expressed his condolences “in this moment of shock” to the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) and its promoter, the Spanish chef José Andrés, for the death of seven of its workers in a bombing by the Israeli Army against his vehicle in the governorate of Deir al Balá, in the center of the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, he hoped that “the investigation promised by the Israeli Government comes to fruition.”
On the other hand, Aznar has condemned the “lack of deterrence capacity” of the United States in current international conflicts, since “North America’s adversaries think” that the country presided over “today” by Democrat Joe Biden is not going to take ” decisive decisions” if the “red lines” are crossed.
“That is what is happening in Ukraine, it is what is happening in the Middle East and it is what is happening in some elements of Chinese policy,” the former president added after reproaching the “lack of forcefulness” of the current US Government.
He has also attacked the Iranian “regime” for using “pressure elements” such as its influence in the different conflicts in the Middle East to “subject the United States and Israel to a situation of continuous wear and tear” with methods to which it is “difficult to react.” “, so the US and Israel “have to adapt their strategies.”
