MADRID, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Roberto Carballés won this Wednesday by a double 6-4 to the Chilean Nicolás Jarry in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Naples, while Jaume Munar, the only Spanish representative in the Antwerp tournament, fell in the round of 16 against the Japanese Yoshihiro Nishioka (1-6, 6-7).
Six Spaniards started in the main draw of the Naples tournament and three of them have a place in the second round. The last to break through was Carballés, who this Wednesday surpassed Jarry in almost two hours, to join Pablo Carreño and Roberto Bautista.
The Canarian started the match very well and broke Jarry’s serve in the first game of the match, an advantage that he took advantage of to win the first set. The Chilean wasted two break balls, without the efficiency and forcefulness of his rival.
Already in the second set, Carballés again broke Jarry’s serve with a tie at two on the scoreboard and, once again, took advantage of the advantage to hold on to the result and win the match.
Carballés, who is advancing from the bottom of the table, will now be the rival of one of the favourites, second seeded in the tournament, Matteo Berrettini. The Canarian will face the powerful Italian player for the second consecutive week, after the great comeback of the Spanish in Florence, 1-1 in direct duels.
Munar, number 55 in the ATP ranking, was unable to continue his hard-fought debut against Van Rijthoven on the Belgian hard court. In the second match, Nishioka started the game very strong and after standing with an initial 4-0, he barely gave the Spanish tennis player options, who could only say goodbye to the first set with a resounding 6-1.
The second set was more even and, although the Japanese tennis player continued to dominate on the scoreboard with a break in the sixth game, Munar was able to match the act and even save a match point in the tenth game. Finally Nishioka, in the ‘tie break’, took the victory to access the quarterfinals in Antwerp.
