MADRID, 30 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The former president and Republican candidate for the United States presidential elections, Donald Trump, has been fined this Tuesday with 9,000 dollars (about 8,400 euros) for contempt of court for violating an order issued by a New York judge that requires him to avoid doing public comments or statements about witnesses or potential witnesses in the case of the trial being held against them for allegedly paying bribes.

Judge Juan Merchan, who is leading the trial against Trump, has ruled that he must be fined and has threatened to send him to prison for the duration of the trial against him if he continues to violate the court’s orders to remain silent during the process. judicial.

Thus, he has considered that the objections of the prosecutors – who requested that he be sanctioned for repeatedly violating the order to remain silent – are appropriate, according to information collected by the American television channel CNN.

In this way, Trump will be fined $1,000 for each of the violations committed – nine in total – after Merchan has considered that he has effectively violated the established prohibitions and has attacked witnesses and members of the jury.

In this sense, he has assured that he “will not tolerate” more acts of this type, so Trump could be imprisoned if he continues with this behavior.

It is not the first time that the New York tycoon has been fined for this reason. Last year he already had to pay 10,000 dollars (about 9,500 euros) for violating this measure and making statements to the press about the judges who were analyzing a fraud case against him. He had previously been fined $5,000 (4,700 euros) for the same reason. He was also then warned of possible imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Trump of 34 crimes for alleged document falsification in the framework of a plot with which he would have tried to hide the payment of $130,000 to the former porn actress Steffany Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels, to buy her silence and not to talk about an alleged extramarital affair before the 2016 elections. The tycoon justified this payment as part of his legal expenses.
