ERC calls a National Congress on November 30 to establish its new strategy
BARCELONA, 15 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, announced this Wednesday that he will temporarily leave the presidency of ERC after the European elections on June 9.
According to a statement from the party, Junqueras reported in the framework of this Wednesday’s meeting of the Executive that after the European elections he will leave the Presidency to “open a process of reflection and active listening before deciding his future.”
The National Executive of the party has also agreed to call a National Congress on November 30 to establish the party’s new strategy.
In another statement, the party has announced a press conference by Junqueras for this Thursday, at 9:00 a.m. at the party’s national headquarters in Barcelona.
Upon leaving the headquarters after the party meeting, Junqueras avoided answering journalists’ questions and said that he will resolve doubts in the appearance he plans to make this Thursday.
MEETING OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE
The National Executive of the party has met since 18.00 this afternoon, in a session of more than four hours with assistants such as the president of the municipal group of ERC in Barcelona, ??Elisenda Alamany; councilors Joan Igansi Elena, Carles Campuzano, Ester Capella, Meritxell Serret, Natàlia Mas and Tània Verge; the former president of the Parliament Carme Forcadell; spokespersons Marta Vilalta and Raquel Sans, among others.
The meeting coincided one day after Junqueras himself published a letter in which he launched his intention to run to continue leading ERC if the militancy so decided and after this Sunday’s elections, in which ERC lost 13 deputies, going from 33 to 20 seats, and the leadership among the pro-independence formations in favor of Junts.
