MADRID, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa said goodbye to her options to play the WTA Finals next month after having to abandon her match in the second round of the tournament in Guadalajara (Mexico) on Wednesday, which is played on the track, against the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
The Catalan has not been able to straighten out a season that is being adverse for her and with few joys in sports after her great 2021. Last year she got into the top eight to play the ‘teachers’ tournament, where she was a semifinalist against her compatriot Garbiñe Muguruza, but neither the Spanish-Venezuelan nor she will be able to repeat presence.
Badosa still had options to get the ticket to Fort Worth (United States) and for that he needed a great result in the Mexican event. However, she was ‘touched’ on a physical level, she could not be at her best level against a quality rival such as former world number one Victoria Azarenka and extended her bad streak.
As indicated by the WTA, the Spanish tennis player, who started as the first favorite in Guadalajara, had to leave the track due to “illness” and after having already clearly lost the first set 6-2 against a rival who was also very firm and successful.
The Catalan player, who had already had to stop the game 4-1 down, will now try to recover to help Spain in the Finals of the Billie Jean King Cup that begin on November 8.
