The SM Foundation celebrates the next 25, 26 and 27 April its International Seminar on Integral Education (SIEI) “Together we renew education” in Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Chile simultaneously.

Why are schools and teachers still necessary in a world of uncertainty? ask the keynote speakers, Jennifer O’Donoghue and Stephen Heppell.

Madrid, April 20, 2023.- “School is still necessary, but not the school of the past. Young people face complex challenges that did not exist before. From the climate crisis to increasing levels of conflict and displacement, through the social and economic effects of a global pandemic, or the consequences of the increase in authoritarianism in the world. How can we rethink education and transform education systems so that, from school, we support inclusive and holistic learning?” reflects Jennifer O’Donoghue, associate director of the Brookings Center for Universal Education and one of the keynote speakers at the Seminar. Integral Education International (SIEI) “Together we take care of education”, by the SM Foundation.

With the aim of making the educational community reflect on how necessary the school continues to be, as well as the training of teachers that generate a real change in their students, the SM Foundation celebrates the SIEI Ibero-American forum. A total of 50 international experts will discuss these issues on April 25, 26 and 27, simultaneously via streaming in Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Chile. More than 70,000 Ibero-American teachers have participated, since its inception, in this seminar to learn first-hand about the latest educational trends and thus improve the learning of their students.

Crazy and passionate about knowledge: profile of the “influencer” teaching staff

“How should teachers be to advance in this world whose only certainty is uncertainty? What do we do as teachers to influence influencers?”. This is asked in the keynote address by the British Stephen Heppell, professor of the Felipe Segovia Chair of Innovation for Learning at the Camilo José Cela University and specialist in the field of learning, new media and technology. Heppell is clear: in order to influence their students and become agents of real change, teachers have to be “a little bit crazy, obsessed with knowledge and with the topics in which they are experts… The most enchanting decade is yet to come.” ”.

The SIEI will also talk about inclusive, equitable, safe and healthy schools, meaningful innovation, the use of technology with a humanist character, the importance of teacher well-being or how to lead change… The need to rethink the school as well will be present, in line with the latest UNESCO report, published by the SM Foundation, which invites you to do so.

For three days, teachers from all over the world will be able to learn about the latest educational trends to promote the formation of global citizens. This international conference grants a 100% scholarship to all active teachers. Spain will host the sessions in online format, with an additional specific session that will take place on April 25, while in Brazil, Mexico and Chile there will be face-to-face workshops with experts, as well as online sessions, on the 26th and 27th. All the information is available on the website.

Exam stress, the enemy of learning

Exams, the test that evaluates knowledge, generate a high level of stress and anxiety in Primary and Secondary students, which can decrease their concentration and cause a deterioration in their performance. For this reason, the SIEI opens this edition on Tuesday, April 25 with evaluation as the central axis, with teaching experts such as Héctor Ruiz or Juan Domínguez, who will talk about how to evaluate to learn.
