The spokeswoman points out that the ‘Barracks case’ “should not tarnish the good name” of the Civil Guard

MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The minister spokesperson for the Government, Isabel Rodríguez, has once again shown respect this Monday to the economist and Vox candidate for his motion of censure, Ramón Tamames, although she has criticized his willingness to represent the “ultra-right” and its “proposals from the past dark”, which the Executive –has said– is going to face.

Asked in an interview with RNE, collected by Europa Press, if Tamames is going to represent a Spain in black and white, the government spokesperson began by saying that she respects those who are going to show their alternative to the Pedro Sánchez government, due to their record in political life since the Transition and his academic trajectory.

Even so, Rodríguez has lamented that what Tamames in the motion of censure is going to symbolize is “the commitment of a far-right party” that is increasingly “more covered” by the right of the PP of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whom he has reproached that –in his opinion– approach Vox before the next electoral appointments.

“Without a doubt, it is the proposal of the extreme right, which on issues as important as climate change or the clear commitment to advances in women’s rights is at the antipodes,” said Rodríguez, who has affirmed that what will to defend Tamames in Congress “are proposals from the past, from a dark past” that the government is “willing to fight” with measures “for the future of the country.”

For Rodríguez, as he has said, it is fortunate that in Spain a government like Sánchez’s has faced the “worst crises” with “courage and determination”, alluding to the pandemic and the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine. Having said this, he has expressed that the motion will be a good opportunity to oppose the coalition of PSOE and Podemos against the “black and white” of Vox.

“It will be a good opportunity to contrast these models and also to find out which side each one is on, because here the PP is getting closer to Vox, it is shaking hands with Vox more and more, and I think that in a motion of no confidence the extreme right, if the Popular Party really were a moderate right, there is no room for abstention, but rather a resounding rejection, as (Pablo) Casado did courageously” in the last party of Santiago Abascal, he recalled.

And questioned if the Government prefers the debate of the motion this month or that it be closer to the municipal and regional elections on May 28, the Minister of Territorial Policy has indicated that Moncloa has not decided the date because it is the power of the groups parliamentarians and the president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, set it.

Rodríguez has also been asked if the Executive is concerned about the judicial investigation into the alleged irregularities in awarding reform works in various Civil Guard barracks and their alleged connection to the ‘Mediator’ plot.

The spokeswoman, who in the first place has taken the opportunity to attack the PP for using the State Security Forces and Corps in a “partisan manner” to “cover up the corruption” of the ‘Kitchen’ case, immediately afterwards stated that they continue “with attention” the development of the investigation into the ‘Barracks’ case.

And he has stressed that any behavior that does not comply with the law or that implies non-exemplary behavior “deserve all disapproval” on behalf of the Government, which transfers -he added- its “confidence” in the investigation opened by a court in Madrid.

In any case, he stressed that the Benemérita is a police force “respected and loved by all Spaniards” that does a “great job, especially in rural areas” to guarantee security and freedom. “And, therefore, the fact that at this time there are people involved in this case should not tarnish the good name of the Civil Guard,” the spokeswoman proclaimed.
