The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has put the total number of missing persons at 23,000 since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, unleashed nearly two years ago, before specifying that during the conflict it has received more than 115,000 requests for information. by people looking for their loved ones.
“Not knowing what happened to a loved one is unbearable,” said the head of the ICRC Central Tracing Agency Office created in the context of the conflict, Dusan Vujasanin, who highlighted that “this is the tragic reality of dozens of thousands of families who live in a state of permanent anguish”.
“Family members have the right to know what happened to their loved ones and, to the extent possible, communicate with them,” he stated, before adding that the organization “has helped thousands of separated family members to communicate with their loved ones or find out their fate and whereabouts, but there are still many who have not received any news. “We are working every day to help more families,” she highlighted.
