Fourteen people were injured this Sunday, two of them critical, when a tree fell on the ‘Tomahawk’ attraction at the PortAventura resort due to the strong wind.
The park has explained that it was a “random incident” due to the episode of strong winds, after the branches of the fallen tree impacted some of the people who were on the attraction.
Sources from the Mossos d’Esquadra have explained to Europa Press that they have opened a technical investigation and that they have traveled with five teams.
The Medical Emergency System attended to the 14 injured and transferred two people in critical condition: a man to the Bellvitge Hospital (Barcelona) by helicopter and a woman to the Joan XXIII University Hospital (Tarragona).
It has also transferred three people in less serious condition: one to the Santa Tecla Hospital in Tarragona and two to the Sant Joan Hospital in Reus (Tarragona).
In statements to Catalunya Ràdio reported by Europa Press, the deputy head of the SEM in Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre, Joan Antoni Escorcia, explained that 5 of the 9 slightly injured have been transferred to medical centers in the area.
He added that among the 14 injured there are two minors, but they are not in critical condition.
In total, the SEM has activated 8 ground units and a medical helicopter, after receiving the notification around 11:30.

PortAventura maintains that it is “an event completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance” of the attractions.
In addition, it ensures that its facilities meet “the highest safety standards” and undergo rigorous daily reviews.
The park has offered “full readiness” to offer the necessary assistance at this time and full support to families.
